Earlier last week I was at my Yoga class and a thought occurred to me that there were a lot of parallels between Social Networking and Yoga for me.

I’m not the most flexible person in the world and we were doing a stretch that was particularly difficult for me. As I looked around the room, I saw that some people who were struggling less than I was and others who were having no problem whatsoever. The same is true for Social Networking. There are all kinds of levels. Some struggle with it a lot. Some struggle with it a little. And some don’t struggle with it all

In Yoga, the teacher is always telling you that you shouldn’t compare yourself to anyone else since Yoga is a very personal experience. Well the same applies to Social Networking. If you are going to compare yourself, then compare yourself to yoursrelf. In other words, see if you are getting better in some areas. See how far you’ve come from where you started. Measure your progress against yourself and not against others.

Finally, my instructor always finishes the class with the following: “the poses you found easy, you have mastered. The ones that you found hard, you need to practice.” I find this to be true about Social Networking as well.
