As far as I’m concerned, there are only two reasons to be on LinkedIn:

  1. To find the right people for you
  2. To be found by the right people

In order to make it easier to be found, here’s a suggestion:

Make sure that the name on your LinkedIn profile is an EXACT match to the name on your business card. The reason for this is that many people will look you up on LinkedIn after meeting you face-to-face. They will use your business card to do this search. And if the name on your card is not an exact match, there is a good chance that LinkedIn’s search engine will miss you.

For example if your card says Mike Gold and your LinkedIn profile says Michael Gold, your name won’t come up on LinkedIn’s search engine. This is also true if you have middle initials in either your card or your profile.

Bottom line, either change your profile to match your business card or change your business card to match your profile.
